The British & Irish Lions are an all-star team composed of the best national team players from England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. The Lions assemble every four years and have a long and storied tradition dating back to 1888. The 2005 Lions are touring New Zealand from June 4th to July 9th and will play 11 matches. The best of the Northern Hemisphere will face the challenge of the All Blacks in three huge tests, plus seven provincial matches and a virtual fourth test against the NZ Maori. Tri Nations Series & SANZAR tests

The Tri Nations Series features New Zealand, South Africa and Australia (the three countries that won the first four Rugby World Cups) in a home and away format that produces six huge tests each year.

Since its launch in 1996, the Tri Nations Series has produced some of the finest tests ever, including the 2000 Australia versus New Zealand test that many consider the best test ever played. New Zealand has won the series five times, while Australia and South Africa have won twice. South Africa is the defending 2004 champions. The 2005 Tri Nations Series runs for six consecutive weeks from July 30th to September 3rd.

Established in 1996, it was originally composed of 12 franchises, but will expand in 2006 to 14 teams, five from New Zealand (Blues, Chiefs, Crusaders, Highlanders, and Hurricanes) and five from South Africa (Bulls, Cats, Sharks, Stormers and TBD) plus four from Australia (Brumbies, Western Force, Reds, and Waratahs). The season runs from mid-February to late May each year.
